About Us

THE SHARYLAND HIGH SCHOOL BANDS
Sharyland High School has one of the finest band programs in South Texas.  About 200 students participate in three concert bands, percussion ensemble classes, marching band, jazz band, winterguard, winter drumline, and various solo and ensemble groups.

The marching band regularly performs at the Bands of America competitions, City of Palms, and UIL Area G Competitions.  The 2019-20 Mighty Rattler Band placed 1st in Area G competition and reached the Texas State Marching Band level competition for the 2nd consecutive year, finishing 19th out of the 34 bands present.

Every member of the band is encouraged to study solo or chamber works throughout the year.  The Sharyland High School Bands earn well over 75 medals at UIL Solo and Ensemble Competition for their efforts.  Students' musicianship and practice standards are evident in their selection to the Region, Area, and All-State Bands.   In 2017, 15 students qualified for Region Band chairs, and 5 of our band students were placed in the Texas Music Educators Association Area Band.

The Sharyland High School Band is the product of our many feeder elementaries and junior high school.  Our Elementary schools which house grades K-6, are Bentsen Elementary, Hinojosa Elementary, Martinez Elementary, and Shimotsu Elementary.  Both the BL Gray Junior High Staff and the Sharyland High School Staff work with beginning band classes daily at these campuses.  BL Gray Junior High, consisting of well over 250 seventh and eighth grade musicians, gives our future Rattler Band students a chance to participate in 4 levels of concert band, marching band, percussion ensembles, and jazz band.
